The Gold Standard for fMRI Visual Stimulation

PROPixx has been the projector of choice for fMRI research for two decades. Paired with DATAPixx3, it becomes a complete experiment ecosystem: display, triggers, audio, responses, and eye tracking on one microsecond-precision clock.

The challenge

fMRI experiments need more than a projector

Scanner time is expensive. Your stimulus infrastructure should be the one thing you never have to worry about. But most labs are running a multi-vendor stack where getting the timing right is an ongoing engineering project.

Research-grade display quality

Leading research requires fast, rich and fully-characterized visuals that meet the demanding needs of vision scientists. All while managing a large user base with their own PC and software preferences.

Scan synchronization

Locking stimulus delivery to MR triggers with real precision requires hardware-level synchronization, not software polling with variable latency.

In-bore stimulus delivery and monitoring

Visual and auditory presentation need to be delivered to your participant inside the bore, and data acquisition systems needs to support use in MR.

Reliability under pressure

When scan time is a financial investment, your research hardware shouldn’t be a liability. A single interface and ecosystem and world-class technical support and advice get you to the science faster.

The display

Two proven installation paths, same research-grade image

Every MRI suite is different. PROPixx supports both waveguide and shielded in-room installation so you get research-grade quality regardless of your facility’s layout.

PROPixx with waveguide installation

Project through the wall, zero electronics in the scanner room

The most common configuration. A standard non-MR PROPixx sits in the control room and projects through a waveguide penetration into the scanner room. The waveguide may point directly at the bore, or reflect light off of a 45-degree mirror into the bore. No ferromagnetic components or electronics are positioned in the MR suite, just light. Compatible with any field strength.

  • Fully characterised, deterministic timing from video signal logging through screen illumination
  • 120 Hz full-resolution color for standard paradigms
  • 480 Hz color for rapid event-related designs
  • 1440 Hz greyscale and up to 12 bits per colour for advanced paradigms
  • Compatible with most modern graphics cards and all recent operating systems
  • Natively linear luminance output
  • 10 lens options from 0.73:1 super short-throw to 14.83:1 super long-throw
  • Table or ceiling mount
PROPixx MRI + SHIELDPixx: shielded in-room installation

Mount the projector inside the scanner room

When waveguide routing isn’t practical, PROPixx installs directly in the scanner room inside the SHIELDPixx shielding enclosure. RF shielding contains all electromagnetic emissions, optimized for 1.5 T, 3 T, or 7 T scanners. Fiber-optic video and USB keep the signal path clean over distances up to 100 m.

  • MR-safe projector chassis
  • SHIELDPixx aluminum Faraday enclosure with optical projection window
  • DisplayPort and USB over fiber optics, 1920 x 1080 @ 120 Hz
  • Optimized EMI shielding for 1.5 T, 3 T, and 7 T scanners
  • EN 60601-1-2, FCC Part 15/18, UL/cUL 60601-1, CE certified
  • Optional stand and mirror for flexible positioning
MRI Projection Screens

Cinema-grade screens, standard sizes or custom-built for your bore

High-quality rear- and front-projection screens built from fully MRI-safe materials. Choose from free-standing, tabletop, or in-bore configurations. Available in 2D and 3D projection materials. Need a non-standard size? We build custom screens to your specifications.

  • Free-standing screens: 25.5″ and 39″ widths
  • Universal in-bore screens sized for 60 cm and 70 cm bore diameters
  • 2D and 3D optimized screen materials

  • Remote firmware upgrades and continued support
  • Refurbishment program for older units
  • Lifetime technical support
The peripherals

All peripherals on one clock

TRACKPixx3 MRI eye tracker
TRACKPixx3 /MRI

2 kHz binocular eye tracking

TRACKPixx3 /MRI delivers research-grade gaze data without introducing a separate timing chain. A complete fiber-optic solution via the VideoBahn interface keeps all electronics outside the bore. Onboard processing eliminates the need for a dedicated tracker PC.

  • 2,000 Hz binocular sampling, new eye position every 0.5 ms
  • Only 1.7 ms gaze-data latency
  • 1-frame (0.5 ms) blink recovery
  • Pupil + corneal reflection tracking
  • No dedicated tracker PC required
  • Live camera feed monitoring from the control room
