Visual stimulation for OPM-MEG research

PROPixx projects high-speed visual stimuli into your shielded room from outside. Triggers, responses, audio, and 2 kHz eye tracking share one DATAPixx3 clock, aligned to your OPM stream.

The challenge

OPM-MEG detects exceptionally small signals

The display is part of the measurement chain. A commercial projector is built to make a good image; OPM research demands a magnetically clean, deterministically timed one.

Magnetically silent delivery

Consumer displays are magnetically noisy. The projector has to sit outside the recording space and deliver a calibrated image through the shielded room wall.

Deterministic timing

Frequency tagging and transsaccadic paradigms need microsecond-characterized frame timing, not software polling.

Integration with your OPM provider

Every shielded room and sensor array differs, so the projection geometry is designed room by room.

Projection through the shielded room wall

Outside-room projection, zero electronics inside

A PROPixx sits outside the shielded room and projects through a waveguide onto a screen inside. The measurement space stays clear of electronics. A staff scientist designs the light path for your room.

  • 480 Hz colour and 1440 Hz greyscale, fully deterministic
  • Factory-calibrated linear output, verifiable with a photodiode
  • Ten lens options from 0.73:1 to 14.83:1 throw
  • Projection-from-outside architecture, in MRI suites since 2013

Full Field Display · concept in development

Wrap the participant in a 180-degree field

Full Field Display is a concept in active development, shown here as a concept render. A custom fibre-optic lens relay keeps the projector body outside the shielded room and carries the image through a single shared waveguide about 10 cm in diameter, wrapping the participant in one seamless curved field. Only light crosses the shield boundary.

  • ~180 degrees horizontal, up to 5760 x 1080
  • Custom fibre-optic lens relay; projector body stays outside the shielded room
  • One shared waveguide, about 10 cm in diameter
  • 3× PROPixx and 3× DATAPixx3 on one time base
  • From $314,000 USD; 6 to 9 month lead time

The ecosystem

One clock, every channel

DATAPixx3 puts stimulus, triggers, audio, responses, and gaze on a single hardware clock. What your participant saw, heard, and did is timestamped alongside your sensor data.

OPM synchronization

Pass TTL triggers and analog signals straight to your OPM system. Or run synchronized, concurrent DATAPixx3 and OPM trigger acquisitions.

Pneumatic stereo audio

SOUNDPixx delivers stereo audio on the same clock, with 30 dB noise reduction and no electronics in the room.

2 kHz eye tracking

TRACKPixx3 adds binocular gaze in the shielded room, timestamped on the same DATAPixx3 clock.

Fibre-optic responses

RESPONSEPixx /MRI button boxes are 100% plastic and report over fibre with microsecond timestamps.
