Visual stimulation for MRI research

PROPixx projects high-speed visual stimuli into the scanner room from the control room. Triggers, responses, audio, and 2 kHz eye tracking share one DATAPixx3 clock, locked to your MR triggers.

The challenge

MRI needs more than a projector

Scanner time is expensive, and your stimulus infrastructure should be the one thing you never have to worry about. Most labs run a multi-vendor stack where getting the timing right is an ongoing engineering project.

Research-grade image quality

Vision science needs fast, fully characterised visuals that hold up across many users, PCs, and software preferences.

Deterministic scanner sync

Locking stimulus delivery to MR triggers needs hardware-level synchronization, not software polling with variable latency.

In-bore delivery, MR-safe

Visual and auditory stimuli reach the participant in the bore from MR-safe hardware, with support behind every scan hour.

Projection through the scanner-room wall

Outside-room projection, zero electronics inside

A standard PROPixx sits in the control room and projects through a waveguide into the scanner room, either directly at the bore or off a 45-degree mirror. No ferromagnetic components or electronics enter the MR suite, only light. Compatible with any field strength.

  • Fully characterised, deterministic timing from signal to screen
  • 480 Hz colour and 1440 Hz greyscale, up to 12 bits per colour
  • Ten lens options from 0.73:1 to 14.83:1 throw
  • Natively linear luminance output, verifiable onsite

Mount the projector inside the scanner room

When waveguide routing is not practical, PROPixx installs in the scanner room inside the SHIELDPixx Faraday enclosure. RF shielding contains all electromagnetic emissions, optimised for 1.5 T, 3 T, and 7 T scanners. Fibre-optic video and USB keep the signal path clean over distances up to 100 m.

  • MR-safe chassis in an aluminium Faraday enclosure with optical window
  • DisplayPort and USB over fibre, 1920 x 1080 at 120 Hz
  • Shielding optimised for 1.5 T, 3 T, and 7 T scanners
  • EN 60601-1-2, FCC Part 15/18, UL/cUL 60601-1, CE certified

The ecosystem

One clock, every channel

DATAPixx3 puts stimulus, triggers, audio, responses, and gaze on a single hardware clock, locked to your scanner. What your participant saw, heard, and did is timestamped alongside your MR data.

Scanner synchronization

Lock stimulus delivery to MR triggers with microsecond precision. Hardware sync, not software polling.

Pneumatic stereo audio

SOUNDPixx delivers stereo audio on the same clock, with 30 dB noise reduction and no electronics in the bore.

2 kHz eye tracking

TRACKPixx3 /MRI adds binocular gaze in the bore, timestamped on the same DATAPixx3 clock.

Fibre-optic responses

RESPONSEPixx /MRI button boxes are 100% plastic and report over fibre with microsecond timestamps.
